Stress-Strain Experiments
5ID-D has an Instron corp. model 8500 Materials Testing System. The Instron is used for in situ stress-strain experiments. It has dual servohydraulic actuators with a total 16” of travel (8” per actuator). The dual actuators allow the center of the sample to remain in the beam during the experiment. The Instron can deliver up to 2.5 MN (560,000 lbf) of force at frequencies from 0 to 500 Hz. Load, position, and strain variables can be independently controlled. Several load cells are available: 0 - 10 lb, 0 - 50 lb, 0 - 200 lb, and 0 - 1000 lb.
